In October we are wondering about the moon – have you seen any of our harvest moons?
The term “harvest moon” refers to the full, bright Moon that occurs closest to the start of autumn. The name dates from the time before electricity, when farmers depended on the Moon’s light to harvest their crops late into the night.
Imagine what it would have been like to use only the moon to light the darkness? Would you be able to go for a walk with only the moon to guide you? Sometimes we get used to so much light that we don’t know how to walk in the dark and we create fake lights to help us when we have an amazing creation called the moon that’s already high in the sky to help us.
That makes me think of our ordinary lives and how we sometimes don’t appreciate what we already have so we fill our lives with wanting more and more things to make us feel safe and happy. Nature is so full of newness and is there for us all the time – I wonder can you spot something new in nature this month?
